Which grade for your project?
The grade describes the visual quality of a veneer. The higher it is, the more uniform the sheet — and the higher the price. Choose it based on what will actually be seen.
A veneer grade is a quality level defined from the look of the sheet: natural defects, regularity of colour and grain, and whether it can be used as a visible face, a back, or an inner ply.
Names vary between markets and manufacturers, but the logic is always the same: the higher the grade, the stricter the aesthetic requirements.
What is assessed
- Uniformity of colour and figure
- Knots, splits, holes, pockets, pin marks or discolouration
- Visible repairs or patches
- Usable width and visual continuity of the sheet
- Intended use: face, back, inner ply or industrial use
1. Sheet grade
It describes the look of the decorative face: colour, grain, knots and repairs.

2. Panel grade: face + back
On a veneered panel, the grade combines the quality of the front face and of the back. Choose according to what will remain visible.
Both sides will be seen: doors, open shelves, partitions, high-end furniture.
Only one side matters: cabinet boxes, furniture whose back stays secondary but tidy.
Architectural face sequence-matched, grade A back: doors, walls and architectural panels whose pattern carries from one panel to the next.
The back will be hidden: applied or built-in panels, components whose back is not exposed.
